ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT ENTRY-LEVEL DRIVER TRAINING
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations set the baseline for training requirements for all entry-level drivers. Beginning on February 7th of 2022, all prospective U.S. commercial driver license applicants must receive basic entry-level training in driving theory as well as behind-the-wheel training before being able to take a CDL skills and driving test for a commercial driver license. This training will not just better equip entry-level commercial truck drivers before they start their driving careers, but also aims to increase professionalism and help make our roads and highways safer.
Yes, if you are:
- looking to apply for a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time;
- upgrading an existing CDL to a Class A or B;
- or obtaining a school bus (S), passenger (P) or hazardous materials (H) endorsement for the first time, you must meet ELDT requirements by taking a course from a FMCSA-registered provider such as CDL Connection.
Anyone who was issued a CDL or an S (school bus), P (passenger), or H (hazardous materials) endorsement prior to February 7, 2022 is not required to complete ELDT for their respective CDL or endorsement. Any applicant who acquired their commercial learner’s permit (CLP) prior to February 7, 2022, and obtains a CDL before the CLP or renewed CLP expires, is not subject to the ELDT requirements. Any individual who meets one of the exceptions for taking a skills test under 49 CFR Part 383 is also exempt from the ELDT requirements.
Yes, we are! Here at CDL Connection, we’ve been preparing for the new ELDT laws since early 2019 and have developed our training curriculum around the federal guidelines for ELDT Theory, Behind-The-Wheel (BTW), and the CDL Written Tests that you will need to take and pass at your local Texas Department of Public Safety office and testing location.
We get a lot of people asking us how to become a truck driver. CDL Connection makes it easy to start and even easier to pass and finish your training in a matter of weeks not months. After you purchase one of our online theory courses, you will be sent a confirmation email that will include your login details. You will be able to login, view, and complete your course(s) at any time by visiting www.sentixlms.com/.
Once you have completed the course, you will receive a course completion certificate and one of our lead instructors will certify and sign-off on all of the different modules and parts of your training. They will complete your training submission online and your data will be sent electronically and placed into the FMCSA registry or federal database system with your status showing that you have been sufficiently trained in ELDT theory and certified by a CDL Connection instructor.
No. The ELDT mandate is a national requirement issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and applies to all prospective U.S. commercial driver license applicants. You must receive basic entry-level training in driving theory as well as behind-the-wheel training before being able to take a CDL skills and driving test for a commercial driver license after February 7th of 2022. Unless you are an individual who meets one of the exceptions for taking a skills test under 49 CFR Part 383 and exempt from the ELDT requirements, then you must receive this training before you will be able to take a CDL skills and driving test for a commercial driver license.
